The Ice Age Is Coming, The Sun Is Zooming In, Engines Stop Running And The Wheat Is Growing Thin...

Well another week has passed therefore it’s blogging time once again, let me tell you about my action packed week…

…yeah, well not exactly action packed really, in fact possibly the dullest week ever, no pub, no cinema, no nothing…BORING!

In fact by the time it got to Thursday night I was really bored and needed a bit of motivation, something to get me out the house and do something. Thankfully I got a text off Marcus on Friday morning asking if I fancied going to London the next day.

So Saturday morning I got up mega early, and when I say mega early I’m not talking any of this 10am nonsense, I mean proper 6am early, I’d planned it all out so I’d get to Solihull station for 8:15 which surprisingly I managed for 8:10, so with 20 minutes left to spare until the other got there I decided to have a walk into Solihull and pay a visit to the cash point.

When I got back Gaz, Adam and Marcus turned up and we caught the 9:06 train to Marylebone station, we got into London for about 11am and went straight to the pub for some over priced liquid refreshment, we were also going to order some food but after looking at the prices we decided it would be cheaper to go to the McDonalds around the corner.

After a bite to eat it was time to do some touristy type things. First stop would be the Tate Modern so we took the tube to St Paul’s, only problem being that St Paul’s is now a deathtrap so we walked from Bank (I’m having to look at a map of the London underground here to get some idea of where we went).

After walking along Millennium Bridge we got to the Tate Modern. Now, on the way there I was telling everyone about the massive slide that they had up so that people could slide from floor to floor, we walked inside to see…bits of slide all over the floor, they had just taken the sodding thing down.

At this point (probably because of the slide) Marcus went to meet up with Steve and Mark while me, Adam and Gaz went round the Tate Modern. I’ve always enjoyed modern art and have tried my best to understand what the artist was trying to say with the piece, at first I could understand it but after a while I started to get a bit bored, in my opinion they needed more interactive stuffsuch as a slide.

We left the Tate Modern after a couple of hours, I’m still not sure what I think of it, part of me wants to like it whereas part of me wants to hate it…maybe that’s what they intended and therefore it’s art in itself…or maybe not.

We then met up with Marcus, Steve and Mark for some more over priced drinks, we also needed to decide where we were going next, it would have to be somewhere pretty damn impressive. Marcus suggested the Surgeon’s Museum, it sounded a bit boring at first, I thought it would probably be a few knives and trays on display, maybe some paper towels if we were lucky.

We walked along the Thames and jumped onto a bus to Holborn, after a short walk we got to the Surgeon’s Museum, it was part of the Royal College of Surgeons, but still I walked in preparing to be unimpressed…straight away we see a skeleton, a brain and jars full of dead things…now I’m impressed!

The whole museum is really interesting and yet slightly nauseating at the same time, we saw so many oddities that I don’t know where to begin, the highlights though have to be the 7’7” skeleton, the giant skull and the conjoined skulls, we were enjoying it so much that the museum seemed to get rather quiet and after going to look at the stuff back downstairs we heard a voice come from the corner saying “The museum is closed!” I’m just glad we didn’t get locked in there overnight.

Looking at all these dead body parts is hungry work so we needed somewhere to eat, we walked to the Pizza Hut at Cambridge Circus, opposite was the Palace Theatre which was showing Spamalot. Weirdly enough this was the first time I’d ever been to a Pizza Hut, but I enjoyed it loads and ate enough to last me a week.

After our pizzas we said goodbye to Steve and Mark (Mark was taking part in the London Marathon the next day) and decided to kill a few hours walking back to the station and finding a pub for some more over priced drinks.

We went to the wetherspoons at Baker Street, it was so much nicer than any pub you’ll find back in Birmingham, it kind of made it worth the extra money you were paying really.

We got back to Marylebone station for 9:40 and were back in Solihull for just before 12, luckily Adam gave me a lift home, I don’t think my legs could take any more walking.

I really enjoyed our day in London. There is something different about London that I can’t quite put my finger on, you notice smells more and the little differences that you wouldn’t normally have back here, I’m looking forward to going back there again during the summer.

Sunday was a day of rest, I was thoroughly worn out, I ached all over. I spent most of the day watching the London marathon while still out of breath from the day before.

On Monday I went bowling with Adam and Gaz, when we got there we were told we could have 3 games for £9 or as many games as we wanted for £7, it was a bit of a no-brainer really so we ended up having about 4 games, I didn’t win any of them so it was all boring really.

Yesterday I had an interview about my JSA, after being told off for being slightly late and then being told I’m not trying hard enough I signed my stupid little book thing and went home.

That evening I went with Gaz, Adam and Marcus to see Blades Of Glory. I didn’t really enjoy it, it’s like Zoolander on ice, the best thing about it was the fact that we were in the deluxe screen with the comfy chairs. Just in case you’re interested in seeing the film, here’s a trailer…

…I see you still look like a 15 year old girl, but not hot!

You Don't Understand, I Do What I Can, But Sometimes I Don't Make Sense...

It’s time for me to blog again which means it’s time for you to take half an hour out of your busy lives to read about my not so busy life.

So anyway, let’s go back to last Sunday, I went to visit my nan, it was all rather normal until 5 policemen (or should that be policepeople?) walked past my nan’s window and went to her neighbour’s house before taking him away with them 10 minutes later…not sure what all that was about.
21
On Monday Gaz had just came back from Austria so we were all going to go to the pub that night, although Adam had just hired out Jackass 2 on DVD so we all watched it round my house instead.

Tuesday was a bit more interesting, I had my usual JSA thing at the job centre, after rushing to get there on time I sat down to speak to one of the people there and suddenly my head felt like it was about to explode, this could be due to a number of things:

1. I’d not eaten much.

2. It was a really warm day.

3. I’d just ran all the way through Solihull to get to the job centre.

4. The really good photography job I applied for a few months back was available again.

I could feel myself slowly sliding off the chair and tried my best not to faint, it wasn’t too easy but I managed it pretty well, I signed my book and headed back to the bus stop, easier said than done though when you’re not feeling well, I swear people must have thought I was drunk as I was staggering round.

I got home and had some food and a sleep and by the evening I felt well enough to go out again. I phoned Gaz and he said that he’d bought something…but he wouldn’t say what it was.

Adam and Carl picked me up and we went round Gaz’s house, he’d bought Guitar Hero 2 for the Xbox 360, it’s really addictive once you start playing it and is really good fun to play.

Wednesday was alright until I started feeling really faint again, I’m not sure what keeps causing this, one minute I’m fine and the next I’m all over the place…I think I should see the doctor.

Thursday I got a text off Gemma asking if I fancied a drink that evening, luckily I didn’t faint that day so I went out. Gemma and Woody picked me up and we met Adam, Carl, Marcus and Jo at the peacock. It was quite a good night, I prefer pubs like that where you can sit round and talk instead of being deafened by crap music.

The next day I decided to go out and do something, I rang Gaz because I knew he wasn’t back at work until next week, he was about to go round Carl’s house with Guitar Hero 2, Carl had the game now too so we had 2 guitars to use. Gaz picked me up on the way and Adam later turned up too, it was quite a good day.

Carl also had Ralph’s Wii with him while Ralph and Kirstie were on holiday, I tried my hand at a few of the games but I was shit so I’ve decided that I don’t like it until I can find a game that I’m good at.

One thing I can say about the Wii though is it’s very good exercise and as a result I was knackered the next day, I decided to try and save my energy for today because…

…Today marked the official start of the summer because it was the first barbeque of the year, we all went round Carl’s house with food and drink, however there was one essential thing we forgot about…a strategy.

You see, every barbeque needs a strategy, you need to pace yourself between each thing you eat, timing is the key. After the first round of sausages were eaten, the burgers, chicken wings and chicken drumsticks were all thrown on together. Unsurprisingly, we were all soon full leaving loads of food that we didn’t even use, I think next time we have a barbeque we should at least plan it out first.

Afterwards we all watched Ralph and Kirstie’s wedding video and played some Guitar Hero and Wii Boxing, I decided just to watch this time after my poor performance a few days before. I couldn’t see the screen from where I was sat but I could see Adam and Jenny punching which looked hilarious.

Next up was the fight of the century…Marcus vs. Bobby, words couldn’t describe this, Marcus’ fighting style was a cross between Star Wars kid and Mike Tyson, in case you failed to order it on pay per view here are the highlights…

in case you’re wondering (and you probably are) you have to shake the controller to get your character back to his feet and that’s what Marcus is doing at the beginning on the 2nd video…at least I hope so.

…How the fuck am I down?

It's Worse Than That, He's Dead, Jim...

It’s been 2 weeks since my last blog so I’ve decided to update it, I mean it would make sense really wouldn’t it.

So lets go back to last Monday, my mum had a few days booked off work so she decided to spend the week up at my uncle’s flat in Dundee, she left on the Monday morning in a panic in case she missed her coach, as she went I told her to be careful of the crocodiles (I don’t think she got that) and organised the party…I kid, we had no party really, I was just pleased to see her go…I mean I was just pleased that she was having a well deserved break.

That night we all went to see 300 at the cinema, I made the fatal error though of falling asleep in the first 5 minutes only to be woken up about 10 minutes later by an excited chuckle coming from Marcus when some boobs were on screen. From what I could make of the film though it seemed ok, a bit gory in places, in case you’re interested here’s a slightly toned down version of the trailer…

After the film we headed to wetherspoons for a drink, while we were in there Gaz was about to sit down and a voice behind him shouted out…

Oi! You’re a twat!…
“I’m sorry do you mean me?”
Yeah, you’re a twat!

Gaz sat down slightly puzzled, at first we all presumed that Gaz knew him but then we realized it was just a drunk local troglodyte, it seemed weird though as there’s never any trouble there.

Anyway the next night we went to wetherspoons again and as we were all talking we heard a crash on our table, some dickhead had thrown an orange and it had knocked Gaz’s glass over. Now from what I’ve learnt over the years I know that if someone does something like that they do it for a reaction, they want you to rise to the bait, the best thing to do is to ignore it, and ignore it is what I did, however nobody else had the same idea as me and as Marcus was muttering that he’d kill them if they tried it again…they tried it again…so we went to the masons instead, I mean nobody wants a murder to ruin their Tuesday night out.

The rest of the week was pretty dull, it was mainly spent cooking, cleaning, washing stuff, etc. we coped pretty well really, it’s all good practice for when I eventually move out. We did have one mishap though, but it was my sister’s fault, she managed to knock over a bottle of cooking oil and (as always) I had to clean it up, you’d never believe how hard it is to clean cooking oil off lino.

My mum came back on Saturday, my nan told me she’d be back at 7 and my sister told me it was 8 but I was positive it was 5, sure enough I was right and the place was a mess, I think my mum was too tired to notice though, she was just surprised that the house was still in one piece.

Last Sunday I went with Adam, Gaz and Carl to Memorabilia at the NEC, it was pretty much the same as last time really, there were the usual Stormtroopers and Klingons everywhere, however there was a fat Power Ranger walking round with a backpack, wellies and carrying a Millers carrier bag, now my memory of Power Rangers isn’t all that good, but I’m pretty sure that I never saw him in it.

Other things we saw there included a replica DeLorean from the Back to the Future films, Kenny Baker and his wife eating their lunch on the table next to ours in the canteen, Jack LaMotta - the boxer who Raging Bull was based on…and a Dalek with erectile dysfunction.

On the way out me and Gaz were stood in the queue for the cash point, while we were stood there we were approached by a couple of Storm troopers (I bet they take note of your pin number and then beat you up and steal your card once you leave), Gaz went up to one and asked him if he could go up to Adam and cause a bit of a scene with his gun…instead the Stormtrooper held the gun up to Gaz while I took the photo, I felt like this was poetic justice for what happened last time we went, we then quickly left before he could get Gaz’s card.

When we got back to Carl’s house Gaz got his lightsaber out (I spent 20 minutes trying to think of a way of saying this without it sounding rude), he bought it at the NEC and it looked pretty impressive, I took some photos as he swung it around in the lounge (…I did warn you!).

In the evening Gaz had to go home to pack for his trip to Austria, then Marcus and Jenny joined us for a meal at the black boy in Knowle…or at least that was the plan. When we met them there the placed was full so we went to the heron’s nest instead, this was pretty full too but luckily we found a table, as we were sitting down though Jenny suddenly says “I wanna go for a curry!” only for Marcus to agree, why they didn’t say this earlier I’ll never know but the idea of a curry did sound good so we got back in the car and headed to bilash in Knowle.

After the curry we all bought some drinks and went back to Carl’s for a game of Donkey Konga and Mario Kart, as we were playing Mario Kart Marcus took a sip out of his can and put it next to his foot…now I’m no expert on physics or anything like that, but I’m pretty sure that if you put a can (doesn’t matter what drink it is) next to your foot while you’re concentrating on playing a computer game there’s a pretty good chance of it spilling onto the carpet, this was an accident waiting to happen and sure enough it did.

I had a boring few days after this, we went to the white swan in Wythall on Tuesday, it was alright I guess. I also got to see Gemma for the first time in ages on Tuesday which was good.

Last night I went to the bluebell with Gemma, Woody and Adam, the original plan was to sit outside by the canal but it was freezing so we sat inside. I’d only planned on having one drink that night but as the pub was calling last orders I decided to grab myself a 2nd one, just after I sat back down though Gemma stuck another drink in front of me. I got home and watched Trainspotting before going to bed, I was wide awake though, all that caffeine was enough to keep me awake for a week.

So that’s it for another week or so, I know how sad you are that it has to end but there’ll be another one soon. Have this video to go on with…

I’ve just got Battlefield 2 for the 360 so I’m off to pop a cap in some ass.

…Does Derek win the £20?
